Winter Warnings
Gritting
A national shortage of salt and a new countrywide rationing system means that Cambridgeshire has had to review its gritting operation. For us in the Chishills this means that apart from the Barley Road there will be no gritting in the area! Not only will New Road and Heydon Road not be gritted, but Fowlmere Road Heydon will not be done either. Map showing new gritting plan. It may be a mistake, but it appears from the map that a section of the A505 around Royston will not be gritted! South Cambs Info Page
Oil Deliveries

Due to the cold weather most of us are using more oil for our central heating.
On 4th of January Jim Brearley ordered oil from 'BOILER JUICE' who claim to give a 1 to 7 day delivery.
However, the 1 to 7 day delivery excludes weekends and the order commences only when they have placed your order with their supplier!
Jim phoned the supplier to ask for help as he was out of oil and had no heating.
By the 15th of January he still had no oil and was told it will not be delivered that day.
This raises a concern especially for the elderly in our community who probably will not complain and just accept this poor service.
So if you are in need of oil please allow for longer lead-times.

Church Vandalism
There have been three separate incidents of church vandalism recently. These were at Ickleton Church in Mid November and then again on 4th January.
The second incident was at Strethall Church and the third was on Tuesday 12th January some time between 9am and 4pm at St. Mary’s Church in Newport. Please keep a close eye on your local church and if you see anything suspicious going on, please dial 999 immediately.

Our Postman has Retired
Our postman, Graham Parrish retired on 8th January. He has been looking after the people of Great Chishill for 19 years! I'm sure that everyone in the village would like to thank him for all his hard work over the years, but especially for his amazing service over the last few days, battling with the elements to get our Christmas mail to us.
If you would like to express your thanks, please see Angela Coxall in Barley Post Office.
Graham lives in Litlington and is a keen bowls player, and at the moment has no specific plans for his retirement.
